I recently read an article by the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child. The article stated " healthy development depends on the quality and reliability of a young child's relationships with the important people in his or her life, both within and outside the family". This article made me think of the individual's in my life that have helped influence me as a child and as an adult. Early Childhood educators help to lay the foundation for young children. These are the individuals who I feel had an important role in my developemnt.
Mother: My mother was my shero! I watched her as a single parent provide for me and my 4 siblings. My mother always made sure we had everything we needed. She made sure we understood the importance of education and independency. My mother was an entrepreneur and a stay at home mom. My mother had to make many sacrifices. I was a young parent and she also stayed home and watched my daughter for me to complete high school and college. My 2 Sisters: My sisters have always been like mothers to me. They have always comforted me, supported me, and guided me. They lead a positive path for me to follow. They each have double master's, and are great parents. My sisters made sure I did not loose sight of my dreams, even when I became a parent at an early age. These three women showed me the importance of education, self- discipline, and motivation. These women made their dream come true reguardless of thier situation. I had a teacher as a child that was very caring, and nurturing, She would always allow me to do extra credit. She would provide my family with resouces or contest and events that could benefit me. This teacher was amazing. She would even provide transportation for me to attend these contests, and events. The techniques that she used in her class helped me to become the teacher I am today. She was very creative with her teaching style. She made learning fun, and exciting! These are 2005, images of my family. The first image on the left is my mom in the background holding my daughter along side my brother, and niece. The second image on the right is me (white shorts & grey shirt) along side my sisters and our children.
In my young adult life I have had 2 unique individuals who have also helped me develop into the person I am. These individuals I consider family. These individuals have been inspirational, and encouraging and have opened new doors for me as well. I had a great family support system growing up, but I also was blessed with great friends. These individuals were a part to the whole.
